Breaking Period Taboos: Arielle Loupos on Flower Girl’s Mission

For most of us, periods were something we didn’t talk about. We whispered, we hid products up our sleeves, and we accepted the discomfort of pads and tampons as “just the way it is.”

But as Arielle Loupos discovered, that silence has consequences—not just for our comfort, but for our health, our environment, and the way we view our own bodies.

Arielle is the founder of Flower Girl, a Los Angeles–based brand creating sustainable period underwear that’s safe, functional, and—dare I say it—cute. What started as her frustration with the lack of options became a mission to reinvent period care and break the taboos that keep women from fully understanding their own bodies.

Why Period Products Haven’t Changed (and Why That’s a Problem)

Here’s something that might make your jaw drop: tampons were invented by a man, and they haven’t changed much since. In fact, the first real study on what’s actually inside tampons wasn’t conducted until 2024. What researchers found? Microplastics and toxic chemicals—even in products labeled “organic.”

Arielle believes women deserve better. Flower Girl’s period underwear is made from natural fibers like Tencel Modal and layered with antimicrobial fabrics designed to be both safe and sustainable. And beyond the product itself, Arielle is determined to change the conversation.

Breaking the Silence Around Our Cycles

One of the most powerful parts of Arielle’s story is her passion for cycle syncing—understanding the four phases of a woman’s monthly rhythm and learning to live, work, and lead in alignment with it.

For so many of us, especially those of us 45+, this is the education we never received. We were taught to push through, to be the same every day, to hide the reality of our cycles. Arielle reminds us that honoring our rhythms is not only healthier—it’s a leadership superpower.

And for our daughters and granddaughters? Conversations like this one make it possible for them to grow up without the shame and secrecy we carried.

Entrepreneurship with Purpose

Flower Girl isn’t just a product—it’s a mission. Arielle shares candidly about the long, messy road of product development, the challenges of finding manufacturers, and the cost of doing things sustainably. But through it all, she’s trusted her intuition.

Her story is a beautiful example of what it looks like to build something that truly matters—not just for profit, but for impact.

Why This Conversation Matters

You might not be buying period underwear for yourself anymore. But you do have women in your life—daughters, granddaughters, nieces, friends—who need safer options. And you deserve to know the truth about what we’ve been sold for decades.

Arielle’s story is a reminder that:

  • Our health matters, at every stage of life

  • Entrepreneurship can be an act of service and impact

  • It’s never too late to break old taboos and start new conversations

And if nothing else? It’s proof that a cheeky cocktail story and a mission-driven business can go hand in hand. 🍸
