How Sara Vezensek Went from Yacht Chef to a Life of Freedom
Aug 21, 2025
What does freedom really look like? For some, it’s a paycheck that arrives on time. For others, it’s a corner office and a 401k. But for Sara Vezensek, freedom meant something bigger: the ability to choose where she lived, how she spent her days, and who she served with her gifts.
That desire carried her from a small town in Slovenia to the kitchens of European yachts—and eventually into the world of business coaching, where she now helps women all over the globe claim their own version of freedom.
Sara's story is not about luck. It’s about risk, resilience, and having the guts to go after what lights you up.
The Leap That Changed Everything
At 18, Sara was working as a waitress making $4 an hour when she heard about the money to be made working on yachts. The only problem? She wasn’t a trained chef.
Most people would have counted themselves out. Sara decided to risk it all—investing $5,000 (her parents’ equivalent of five months’ salary) into a shot at the yacht academy. Against all odds, she landed one of just two available spots.
That leap—equal parts terrifying and exhilarating—became the blueprint for how she approaches life and business today. As she says, “Courage comes first. Confidence comes later.”
Reframing Failure
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was Sara’s take on failure. To her, failure isn’t final—it’s a speed bump. A roadblock. A sign that you’re on the path, even if you have to take a detour.
That shift in perspective is powerful for women who’ve been conditioned to play it safe. As Sara reminded us, the “safe” route isn’t always safe anymore. Corporate jobs disappear overnight. Stability is a myth. But courage? That will always serve you.
The Power of Women Owning Their Voice
Sara’s mission now is to help women step into true freedom: time, money, and location. But even more than that, she believes women have the potential to change the world when we stop playing small.
“Every single leader in the world has a mom,” she said. “ If you give us...resources...we can truly change the world for the better place. ”
That means rewriting the way we talk about failure, wealth, and visibility. It means taking risks, standing out, and creating businesses that don’t just generate income but also create impact.
Your Next Step
If you’ve been waiting for permission to start—whether it’s launching your business, going after a new dream, or simply trying something that scares you—consider this your sign.

Like Sara’s story shows, you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to take the first step. Courage before confidence. Action before certainty. And maybe, just maybe, an Aperol spritz to celebrate along the way.
